The award Doris Biegler, STEM Coordinator and Technology Trainer for Lawton Public Schools, received as winner of the 2024 Siegfried Excellence in STEM Education Award pays homage to her love of aviation.
The award, given by the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance, is printed on an actual airplane window. Biegler received the award in recognition of her work as a Solar System Ambassador for NASA and for being named NASA Oklahoma Aerospace Educator of the Year in 2019.
Biegler gave credit for the award to her team of STEM teachers.
“I have a lot of great teachers. They are the boots on the ground; they are on the front lines working with the kids,” Bielger said. “I love that they recognized how important STEM is in education and how hard we work to get STEM materials to teachers.”
Biegler said she was thankful for the recognition because STEM looks to the future.
“It helps our cause to get more funding and recognition in the community. It shows that Lawton is at the top of the board in STEM education,” she said.
The award came with $1,000 for her to use personally and $4,000 to spend on STEM materials and resources in the district.
